  • Voldsløkka School – A modern school building with natural materials

In 2023, Voldsløkka School in Oslo opened a new and modern school building with a total area of 14,000 square metres. Spinn Arkitekter has emphasised both functionality, aesthetics and a good choice of materials.

Vyrk has supplied plywood sheets that are veneered with birch and a 2.5% white pigmentation for a light and natural look. Some of the panels have domino perforation for better acoustics, while others are unperforated. In addition, all of the panels were pre-drilled to simplify the installation work.

The trim around the doors and windows are made of the same material as the wall surfaces, which provides a cohesive surface. As a contrast to the light birch surfaces, Vyrk also supplied black MDF boards, both with and without perforation. The dark areas create rhythm in the rooms and frame the light surfaces. Thus, the students have both warm wooden surfaces and dynamic contrasts in their new school environment.
